Hello Beautiful Lipstick: A Year in the Making

Today marks the end of the second month since I started selling Hello Beautiful Lipstick in Love Natural Sunshine’s Boutique. Originally when I had thought of making all natural lipstick it was out of a desperate attempt to find natural beauty products that were safe and non-toxic for my mom to wear.

Thanks to Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and an article published on CBS News, I learned that lead, other metals, and chemicals were pervasive in lipstick lines. And what was worse, my mom was one of the people wearing this lipstick with all of its icky chemicals! This was serious too as a buildup of lead in the body can be linked to hormone disruption and cancer.

When selecting ingredients, I focused on oils and butters that I would want my mom to use in her beauty products. I chose oils with high antioxidant powers and long lasting moisture which prevent premature aging and protect the skin. I wanted Hello Beautiful Lipstick to be truly natural and without any additives.

I also wanted Hello Beautiful Lipstick to be encouraging and uplifting to women. Which is why I inscribed a motto inspired by one of my favorite bible verses on the label of every tube of lipstick, Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

Starting Hello Beautiful Lipstick also changed my blog, Love Natural Sunshine. In May of 2014 I expanded the blog to talk about not only natural hair but natural beauty as well.

I am truly honored and humbled when someone uses Hello Beautiful Lipstick!

I still remember how one of my good friends in high school would greet me with “Hello beautiful” instead of just, “Hey girlfriend” or “Hi BFF.” Looking back, I realize how special that made me feel. And that’s how I want every woman to feel too.
