Benefits of Hibiscus Tea for Hair & Body


Hibiscus tea is a rich, red color and is made by steeping the leaves of the Hibiscus plant in hot water. Besides being a beautiful flower, hibiscus can nourish both your body and natural hair.

Hibiscus is native to Angola which is located on the coast of South Africa. It has been used to support cardiovascular health and to lower blood pressure. North Africans in particular have used hibiscus topically to aid in skin health (source). There are many species of the hibiscus flower which vary between shades of red, white, pink, and even yellow.

For hair care, hibiscus can be used as a ground powder, infused oil, or tea rinse. For the body, drink hibiscus tea with organic or home-grown honey or stevia.

Homemade Hibiscus Tea Recipe

Ingredients:
2 cups of water
2 tea bags of Hibiscus tea (organic)
6 tablespoons of Honey (home-grown or organic)

Directions:
Boil the water in a tea kettle. Meanwhile place the two tea bags in a heat-safe Pyrex glass measuring cup. Pour the hot water over the two tea bags and let steep covered for 3-5 min or until water is a warm red. Remove tea bags carefully. If drinking, add honey to sweeten. If using for hair do not add honey.

Instructions for Drinking Tea & Herbal Tea Rinse for Hair: Drink tea or use as a tea rinse for your hair. Pour the herb infused water over your hair, collecting the water in another bowl. Pour the collected water over your hair again. Rinse your hair thoroughly with cold water and style as usual.
